Virginia Ramble, May 2007

McLean House, Appomattox Courthouse, Virginia.
At this famous site in Virgina the withered, starving Army of Northern Virginia surrendered to General U.S. Grant and his massive Army of the Potomac in April, 1865. The tour guide was insistent that it was not the end of the Civil War. But, of course, it was the end of the Civil War. Everybody knows that.

This famous place was also visited by your humble blogger's family in 2007, the day before Eldest Daughter (being tickled by your humble blogger) graduated from a nearby university. Alert blog visitors will also notice the deliberate subverting of the picture by Eldest Son, who is closing his eyes conspicuously to tease his long-suffering mother.

  1. So did the tour guide think that the Civil War is still going on, or what?
