Not in Kansas Anymore

Donuts! Oh, yeah. I get it now. Donuts in the Creek of Life. Right!

But no. Iceballs only. C'mon. Be reasonable.

Finer Points and Clarifications

At my mother's insistence I went to lunch at Vista and sat at the "Spanish Table". This is a table in the retirement home where everyone speaks Spanish. Rather, they're supposed to speak Spanish. But what happens is that everyone gets tired of that and ends up speaking in English, which is what happened again. Except at the end everyone insisted that Ramon sing "The Power of Love" in Spanish because that's how he courted his wife in Honduras 63 years ago. Which is pretty cool. It would have been more cool if Ramon could actually sing audibly, but what can you expect from a 97 year old man?

Y mi novia es mi esposa, y ella no es una vaca!

The Creek of Life. First clarification: It was iceballs...ICEBALLS...in the Creek of Life. Not donuts! And no, there have not (yet) been any of either in the Creek. Yet. Stay tuned for further developments.

Somebody was murdered at Hendry's Beach yesterday. My mother and I wondered why there were so many police cars when we drove through. The murder didn't stop me from going back and beach hiking to The Rock today. And getting sunburned. Whilst exploring mega-tidepools. Another semi-retro experience that never really gets old.

Final clarifiation: The CC Public Defendor is officially gone. The son-in-law claims that $2m worth of items were stolen from the shop and that the aforementioned icon was part of the heist. A quick web search appears to confirm this explanation:

Once again: You Just Can't Make This Stuff Up !

San Roque Deja Vu

It has been forty years. Forty. Years.

That's a very long time. And as previous posts attest, there have been changes. But other things haven't really changed that much. Or, maybe, they've changed and changed again and changed back. Passing themselves going to where they're coming from, so to speak.

Last night I was driving down Upper State in the dark and I turned on the radio and pressed the Search button. And up came 95.5 KLOS. Still around. Wow. Then, a voice. A familiar voice. Frazier Smith? Yep, doing the "Frazier Smith Pre-Show Show"

Oh, my. Severe wrenching timelapse whiplash. By way.

I happened to be near SMHS at 4pm, so I invited myself to do a little walkthrough. And found the library open. And this amazing sight, featuring Conference Room Dos, the site of repeated incidents in which, at one time, several high school students got kicked out of the library so often they ended up in the Assistant Principal's office:

Now, tonight, staying in a motel on Upper State. On the old cruising route. No Camaros or Mustangs or Chargers or Cougars or suchlike but still Upper State. And one of the stoplights where we used to drag race...allegedly:

Winds of Change: SBFC Investigate Report

3771 State Street, no longer Taco Bell, soon to be a Dunkin' Donuts according to an inside source who is part of renovation crew...

And Collector's Corner, soon to be...pretty much the same.

Your humble blogger/investigator was fortunate enough to find someone entering CC. Someone who just happened to be the son-in-law of the dueño! Aha! And from this source it was learned that...nothing is really happening. The family of said dueño is conducting a "tedious" inventory of the contents in preparation for an auction someday. It is the professional assessment of this investigator that the display cases with the small trinkets have yet to be inventoried. So there is a high probability of Dancing Mice. Son-in-law stated that the political buttons are still there, too, and would be available at the auction for interested parties.

Santa Barbara Redux

The MCBMMBZ (in background) rides again:

My sister and table at the Carpinteria Arts "Show", which appears to be more of a festive art gathering and assorted other things:
